Por lo que se puede leer en la propia red social los usuarios están divididos, unos piensan que es absurdo aumentar la longitud de los textos porque se parecería un poco más a Facebook y otros por su parte celebran poder contar más cosas en un único tuit.
Son varios los motivos por los que Twitter quiere ampliar a 280 caracteres. Desde la red social han declarado que lo hacen porque hay idiomas, como el castellano y el inglés que necesitan más letras para decir una idea importante, algo que no pasa con el chino porque cada carácter ofrece mucha más información que en estos idiomas.
Pero los verdaderos motivos podrían ser otros, hace tiempo que Twitter está estancado y no logra crecer su número de usuarios, es más los pierde. Por todo esto aumentar a los 280 caracteres podría ser una estrategia para que gente que abandonó la red social vuelva y captar nuevos usuarios, aunque hay gente que afirma que la red social podría haber alcanzado su total de su mercado potencial, así que estas medidas no serían muy útiles.
Además, hay que contar con otro elemento importante que podría provocar que esta idea de Twitter fuese una autentica involución por la red social. Si al final se materializa esta ampliación de 280 caracteres Twitter podría ser más parecido a Facebook, por lo que Mark Zuckerberg podría percibirla como competencia real y directa, y se convertiría en su auténtico enemigo. Y sabiendo la fuerza que tiene Facebook, nadie querría ser su enemigo, así que Twitter deberá decidir cuál es la opción que le favorece más, aumentar el número de caracteres o quedarse con los 140 de siempre.
