De esta forma Facebook a partir de ahora buscará de manera activa las personas que aparecen en cada foto y que no estén etiquetadas, aunque formen parte de esta red social. Escaneará la foto y si detecta la cara de un usuario conocido le mandará una notificación por si quiere etiquetarse en esa imagen. A partir de ahí podrá decidir si quiere o no quiere que aparezca su etiqueta , esto ocurrirá incluso en las fotos de perfil.

Facebook cree que esta herramienta va a ser de gran utilidad para los usuarios ya que podrán controlar mucho mejor su imagen online y todas las fotos suyas que se suben a esta red social. Además de esta forma podrán saber cuándo alguien quiere suplantar su identidad o subir contenido privado e inapropiado en el que aparece la persona notificada. Hay que recordar que los españoles desconfían mucho de los contenidos que se publican en las redes sociales
En las fotos que no sean de perfil solo se notificará cuando el usuario que sube la imagen sea su amigo o tengan personas en común. En lo referente a fotos de perfil notificará todas en las que aparezca el usuario, aunque no tenga ninguna relación con él en la red social.
Algunas personas han manifestado su temor a que esta nueva herramienta pueda provocar que sea usada en casos de ciberbullying. Y que el acosador puede ponerse en contacto con la víctima a través de estas notificaciones, así que Facebook tendrá que tener cuidado para evitar estos problemas. No obstante hay que recordar que los niños tienen su propio Facebook Messenger que ha creado la propia red social para que no tengan que usar la red social completa.
