La divulgación científica a través de Youtube en España ha crecido en los últimos años gracias a la labor de físicos como Javier Santaolla, que consigue acercar temas tan complejos como la mecánica cuántica o el Bosón de Higgs a todo tipo de público, sobre todo a jóvenes.
Actualmente, Javier Santaolalla cuenta con tres canales de Youtube: Date un voltio, con 375.435 suscriptores, Date un vlog, con 245.903 suscriptores y Date un mi, con 34.135 suscriptores. En ellos, resuelve dudas relacionadas con física de la manera más amena y sencilla posible para que cualquier persona logre entenderlas.
Por todo ello, nos hemos puesto en contacto con el físico (@JaSantaolalla) para que nos explique más acerca del camino que le ha llevado hasta convertirse en uno de los youtubers científicos con más repercusión de nuestro país.
Su primer contacto con la divulgación científica fue a través del escenario donde, a parte de dar conferencias, también participó en monólogos. A partir de este momento empezaron a surgir diferentes proyectos como la publicación de dos libros o Youtube. Todo ello lo compaginaba con su labor de investigación hasta que «llegó un momento en el que no eran compatibles» y tuvo que elegir.
El canal con más suscriptores, Date un Voltio, lo lleva la productora Endemol, que se ocupa de la producción, montaje y publicación, mientras que del guion y la puesta en escena se encarga él mismo. En cuanto a los otros dos canales son de producción propia y los gestiona Javier Santaolalla desde casa. Contrario a lo que pudiera parecer por la calidad de sus vídeos, no tiene ninguna formación específica en edición , sino que ha ido aprendiendo con tutoriales y con la práctica.
Sin embargo, en el campo en el que sí tiene formación es en el de la física. Es licenciado en dos carreras, tiene dos másteres y es Doctor en Física de Partículas. Tenía ganas de compartir todo este conocimiento de una manera divertida y cercana, todo aquello que ha ido leyendo y aprendiendo a lo largo de su carrera y gracias a la experiencia de investigar en un centro de investigación internacional.
Su principal objetivo es despertar la curiosidad de los jóvenes por el mundo de la ciencia. Considera que al ser un público, en muchas ocasiones, ajeno a la ciencia es a la vez bastante impresionable y se puede conseguir que se enganchen rápidamente si «das con la clave». Además, resalta que es un tipo de público muy fiel y participativo.
Javier Santaolalla reconoce que no utiliza herramientas de marketing digital y que ha ido aprendiendo de manera muy casera a base de hacer los vídeos sobre qué palabras clave utilizar o cómo usar un título que tenga gancho. Respecto a la elección de títulos utiliza una fórmula propia para conseguir dar con la tecla: «la intersección entre los temas que interesan al público y los que me interesan a mí». Por lo tanto, para que funcione la ecuación, mezcla su criterio personal con las peticiones de los suscriptores. De esta forma se siente cómodo con lo que cuenta y consigue enganchar a los usuarios con temas interesantes para ellos.
El vídeo más visto de todos sus canales tiene 800.000 reproducciones y trata sobre la ciencia de la película Interstellar. Atribuye el éxito a la actualidad del tema en el momento de publicarse, a la repercusión de la película y a los temas que trata, entre ellos la relatividad.
En cuanto a las redes sociales, Javier Santaolalla reconoce que le encantan y que ha sido algo que le ha llamado la atención desde siempre. Es él el encargado de gestionarlas, de publicar contenido y de estar al día. Aunque recientemente ha tenido que recurrir a un community manager para ayudarle a responder los centenares de comentarios que recibe cada día tanto en Youtube como en Twitter, Facebook e Instagram. Considera que estar en contacto con la gente es otro de los motores de su proyecto y que el éxito quizá se lo debe a estar tan atento a su comunidad de seguidores y a tener en cuenta sus peticiones.
Entre sus proyectos se encuentra Flipy’s Tesla!, un videojuego para PlayStation de Realidad Virtual dirigido a los niños. Además, cree que el momento en el que se alíe la ciencia con el mundo del entretenimiento se conseguirán muchos más adeptos. En este sentido, está empezando a hacer ciertas actividades relacionadas con la música, la comedia y el arte en general, ya que le gusta tener la mente activa y trabajar de forma creativa.
